Holiday lettings in Beautifully Restored Moorish House in Unspoilt Village of Atalbeitar.
El Rinconcillo is a Secluded House Bordered by Almond Orchards with Spectacular Views
Sleeps 1/6 (2/3 bedrooms)
El Rinconcillo is located on the very edge of the tranquil village of Atalbeitar, one of a collection of seven white-washed, moorish villages that make up La Taha; a south-facing valley on the slopes of Mulhacen, the highest mountain in Spain. Its ancient donkey lanes make it a car-free village, peaceful and safe for children. The house has been recently restored using traditional materials in original ways, with simplicity and comfort in mind. Chestnut beams, bedrock corners and many unique touches give it a rustic beauty, and provide an enchanting base from which to explore the magical surroundings of the Sierra Nevada National Park.

Travel
The nearest airport is Granada, at 1 1/2 hrs drive, which now receives regular flights from the UK. Malaga international airport is also nearby at 2 1/2 hrs drive. There is a public bus service serving the village of Pitres (3 km away), with 3 buses/day to Orgiva, which in turn has connections to the major cities, but we recommend hiring a car to be able to appreciate fully what the area has to offer.
Distances
Pitres, 3km by road, or a pleasant 2 km cross-country walk is our nearest centre, with all amenities...Market day on Fridays, bank, supermarket, bakery, bars and restaurants, and a large open air swimming pool surrounded by grass lawns and fine views.
Ferreirola, Mecina, Fondales and Portugos are all very close to Atalbeitar, between 15 and 30 minutes walk in different directions by the Moorish paths. They all have great character and charm. Worth of a visit and a beautiful walk.
Trevelez, 9km, is the highest village in Spain, and also worth a visit for its dramatic location, and famous serrano hams.
Granada is approximately 1 1/4 hrs away, with its fascinating historic centre, the Alhambra palace, 'hammams' (Turkish baths), the old Moorish quarter Albaizin and superb shopping. Also the entire province of Granada offers free Tapas with each drink you buy!
Further details
Worth mentioning is the network of good walking paths criss-crossing this area of rich wildlife, the most famous of which is the 'Camino Real' or GR7, which passes through the village of Atalbeitar, en route from the coast of Almeria to the city of Granada taking in the breathtakingly beautiful villages of the Poqueira valley, 2 hrs walk from the house.
Also available is pony trekking and mountain biking and for those drawn to spiritual exploring, the Tibetan Buddhist monastery of Ose Ling is approximately 30 minutes away by car.
